Upcoming SDA-Michigan Holiday Meeting

Greetings to all of the Michigan SDA members and friends,

It has been an exciting year and promises to just keep getting better. We have had regular quarterly meetings in various venues and continue to grow as more members are attending. Susan Trovillion has stepped up as Ambassador, so you have another person to contact about SDA-Michigan (s.d.trovillion@gmail.com). Our blog is off to a good start. (www.sda.posterous.com) Please keep sending announcements about your successes (brag a little so we can celebrate with you) and send information about exhibition opportunities, fiber events and workshops to Susan or to me. (skrage2@att.net). If it is about our members or fiber, it is appropriate.

The Next SDA-Michigan meeting and holiday party will be held on Sunday, December 4th at 2 p.m. It will again be held in my home in Indian Village. (1731 Seminole St, Detroit, MI, 48214) Instead of a dinner this year we will feature a pot luck hors d'ouvres and dessert buffet. Please bring your favorite of either sweet or savory to share and your favorite beverage. Non-alcoholic punch will be available. Those who wish to participate in a gift exchange, please bring a wrapped small hand made gift.

Our special guest this year will be SDA's newly appointed Vice President, Jane Dunnewold. Many of you know of Jane from the fabulous books she has written or have attended one of her terrific workshops. We are honored to have her visit and look forward to hearing about new directions for SDA.

As always, you do not have to be a member of SDA to attend, so bring along a friend. We welcome all  fiber enthusiasts.

I would love to hear from members who have not been active at meetings. We have a big state and many of you live at great distances. If you would like to host a meeting in an area that hasn't been served, please let me know and I will try to come as well as facilitate. Because of the size of our state, there is no reason not to organize groups in different areas headed by other Ambassadors. If this idea interests you, please let me know. It has been wonderful for me to get to know some of you and I hope to know many more by this time next year.

SDA Website, Holiday meeting reminder

The new SDA website continues to draw a lot of attention. There are thousands of hits daily. Each member is given a gallery page as a perk of membership. With nearly 4000 members world wide, imagine the size of this website! I would like to encourage you to take a look at the gallery section. A new feature there allows you to sort members by region, or by state as well as individually. Last check, there were only nine Michigan members who have uploaded anything to their free page, and some have no images of work. This is free advertising folks! Think about adding contact information, your e-mail address perhaps, to your statement. This allows potential customers to find you. How cool is that?

We are also part of a challenge offered by board member Astrid Bennett. The challenge is to be the first state with all members represented in the gallery. Come on people, lets rise to the occasion. Your recent e-news from SDA as well as an earlier blog entry (September 1, 2011) give information on how to upload images. It isn't hard and just takes a few minutes. Size your photos first, put them on your desk top and you are good to go.

Reminder: Our SDA Holiday Meeting is December 4th, 2 p.m. Please bring an hors d'ouvre or dessert, your favorite beverage and a small wrapped hand made gift if you want to participate in the gift exchange. Participants in Anne Flora's felting workshop, bring your felted piece, hopefully completed, for show and tell. We can have a general show and tell, but please limit what you bring to a single piece other than the felted one. I look forward to seeing many of you then.

Holiday Meeting will be at my home:

1731 Seminole St., Detroit, MI  48214
